I. What is APOSTLE PAUL TUTORIAL?
APOSTLE PAUL TUTORIAL is a unique Bible Study tool covering
the entire career of the Apostle Paul. All the Biblical data
concerning this premier missionary is covered, as well as some
extra-Biblical information.
Besides the biographical data, all thirteen of Paul's letters
are surveyed in the order he wrote them, and in their historical
context.
The goal is not only to provide you with a comprehensive survey
of the life of Paul, but to introduce his writings in their
historical and personal context. Other tutorials in this series
provide detailed examination of these letters. Please write for
information.

II. How is APOSTLE PAUL TUTORIAL used?
1. At the DOS prompt, insert the disk, type PAUL , then press the
ENTER key. This will display a series of initiatory screens
(and play a hymn), and culminate in the program's MENU .
2. Examine the MENU and select the Unit you wish to work on
by entering its NUMBER in the selection box. Press ENTER
and Screen # 1 of the desired Unit will appear.
3. Clear and complete instructions are included on each screen.
All work is done directly on the computer, with no pencil or
typewriter work required.
4. You will need a copy of the New International Version of the
Bible (other versions will produce some inconsistencies).
5. You will be requested to consult a Biblical passage, and answer
questions about it. These questions are invariably objective-
type exercises, usually requiring you to enter a letter or a
word. There are no sentences or essay questions to write out.
6. There may be one or more exercises on a screen. When you have
provided all the answers requested on a given screen, you will
be prompted to press keys for the Answer Window, which will
then pop up on the screen and give you the correct answers.
7. After the Answer Window appears, press the ENTER key; the
screen will be erased, and a new screen with new questions will
appear.
8. Five FUNCTION KEYS are programmed into this tutorial, as
described below. These keys make it easy to summon the Answer
Window, exit the program, return to the Menu, restart a screen,
or jump to another screen. You may exit the tutorial at any
time by pressing the F2 key and then ENTER . This will return
you to the DOS prompt.

III. What pedagogical techniques does APOSTLE PAUL TUTORIAL employ?
1. Objective-type Questions
APOSTLE PAUL TUTORIAL employs a variety of objective-type
exercises: multiple choice, true/false, fill-in, matching, etc.
Most of these exercises are factual in nature, designed to
acquaint you with the Biblical data. However, interspersed,
there are also interpretive-type questions which require you
to make personal judgments about the material being studied.
2. Clear Instructions
Each screen contains highlighted instructions which provide
specific guidance for the responses you are required to make.
After you enter your answer from the keyboard and press ENTER ,
the cursor will automatically move to the next question.
3. Answer Windows
After you have completed all the exercises on the screen, you
will be prompted to press the F1 and then the ENTER keys. An
Answer Window will immediately appear on-screen adjacent to the
answers you have provided.
4. `Perspective' Screens
From time to time, when circumstances warrant, a screen is
dedicated to a cogent summation of the material being studied.
These screens provide focus for data previously examined on-
screen, and are clearly labeled PERSPECTIVE or HOMILY , and
are interpretive in nature.
5. Units
APOSTLE PAUL TUTORIAL is organized into nine Units, as follows.
╔═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗
║ Unit 1 Pre-Test ║
║ Unit 2 Preparation for Mission ║
║ Unit 3 First Mission ║
║ Unit 4 The Jerusalem Conference (Galatians) ║
║ Unit 5 Second Mission (1 and 2 Thessalonians) ║
║ Unit 6 Third Mission (1 and 2 Corinthians, Romans) ║
║ Unit 7 Imprisonment (Ephesians, Colossians, Philemon, ║
║ Philippians) ║
║ Unit 8 Paul's Later Life (1 and 2 Timothy, Titus) ║
║ Unit 9 Self-Test ║
╚═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
6. Pre-Test
The first Unit is a short Pre-Test (one screen), in which you
can diagnose your ability to identify Paul's letters.
7. Self-Test
The last Unit is a Self-Test covering all the preceding Units.
Pedagogical techniques are the same, with the exception of one
major addition: the Cumulative Report. After the Answer Window
appears for each screen, a Cumulative Report also appears.
Please note that only two of the normal five Function Keys are
available for the Self-Test. The only way to go back to a
previous answer is to begin the entire test over!
8. Self-Test Certificate
After you have completed the Self-Test, the computer will
display a certificate of your achievement. This certificate
will show your name, the current date, your grade on the test,
and, if applicable, the honors status (summa cum laude, magna
cum laude, or cum laude). If you wish a printed record of your
achievement, you may be able to get a printout (providing you
have suitable equipment) thus:
while the Certificate is on-screen,
turn on your printer,
hold down the Shift key,
press the Print key.

IV. Which FUNCTION KEYS are active and what do they do?
(NOTE: only F2 and F3 are available for the Self-Test.)
1. F1 ANSWER WINDOW
Each question screen comes with its own Answer Window. When you
complete the questions on each screen, you are prompted to call
up the Answer Window. Press the F1 key, then ENTER , and the
Answer Window will appear on-screen to provide a check on your
answers.
2. F2 RETURN TO DOS
You may exit APOSTLE PAUL TUTORIAL at any given point by
pressing F2 , then ENTER . This will return you to the DOS
prompt line.
3. F3 MENU
Use the F3 key, then ENTER , whenever you wish to access the
original program Menu which lists the Units available.
4. F4 RESTART SCREEN
Each question screen has a Restart capability. Unfortunately,
it is possible to goof up any given question screen, either by
making incorrect entries, or by inadvertently pressing wrong
keys. When this happens, you may erase the screen and begin it
again simply by pressing the F4 key and then ENTER .
5. F5 ADVANCED RE-ENTRY
If you must interrupt your progress before completing a Unit,
you may find your place next time by using the F5 key:
a. Record the screen number upon exiting.
b. Re-enter the Project in the normal manner.
c. Press F5 then ENTER . This will display a box
in which you are asked to enter a screen number.
d. Enter the number of the screen you desire,
then press ENTER .
(NOTE: the F5 key may be used to travel to any screen in a
Unit whenever you wish.)
